Garage door opener repair

If the opener hums, clicks, or the door reverses on its own, the problem may be the opener, the sensors, or the door itself.

Local help line coming soon. Until it opens: don’t try to open a door with a broken spring, keep kids and pets clear, unplug the opener, and don’t touch the springs or cables yourself.

Quick checks you can do safely

  • Make sure the opener is plugged in and the outlet has power.
  • Replace the batteries in the remote or keypad.
  • Look at the two safety sensors near the floor. Their lights should be on, and nothing should block them.
  • Check whether the lock button on the wall control is on.

When to call

If the door still won’t move, or it’s heavy when you lift it by hand, the problem may be a spring or the door itself. A technician can tell whether the opener needs a repair or a replacement, and can install a new opener with Wi-Fi or a battery backup if you want one.

That company gives the estimate, does the work, and is responsible for it. We may be paid by the company for the referral. You are never charged by us. Read the full disclosure.
